My Case and Long Diesel Tractors have four fuel lines running from the pump up to the head. It gets sludged up from idling for hours at a time. I think the MMO and fuel line checking is a good thought. The valve thing certainly doesn't apply. I just assume that the VW also has a Bosch pump similar to my Case.
