Subject: Indicator light (fridge propane)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I liked the idea of changing the indicator LED on my Westy from the anemic green to a bright blue as one of the other folks had done (I bookmarked that page for later reference). Did it this last weekend. It was much easier a task than I expected (I should have believed the 30 minute estimate noted on the web page.)

So I was excited to see it in action and wouldn't you know, couldn't get the fridge lit (I'll have to follow up on that, as it was working last month.) Not a big deal as I was going to pull the fridge anyway to do the change over on the coil fan.

Anyway, I was experimenting with a few things and threw the fridge over to battery mode (engine running)...and the indicator light turned on. Couldn't miss it. However, I didn't expect it to be on when in battery mode (and the circuit diagram doesn't indicate that it should be on either.) Interesting. Have to investigate this more fully.

Curious thing is, the Bentley manual mentions specific colors for the water level and battery LEDs, but on the propane indicator the text does not talk about its color. The diagram refers to it as a "red" indicator (and all the manuals refer to it as "green".) Blue does seem a much better mnemonic though (however, it should be noted that blue LEDs did not exist up until a few years ago, so it wasn't even an option when our Westy's were made. )

The hardest thing about switching to the blue LED was finding the stupid LED. I went to 10 different Radio Shacks before one had them in stock (how all the Radio Shacks ran out of stock at the same time is beyond me.)
