Kim, thanks, but from Ben T's messages it does seem like it is a 16" bash plate. Its not a really heavy thing, but quite well built (VW don't use thin tin anywhere, do they?) with reinforcing ribs.

I have jpgs's if you want to see, let me know.

I think ot must have been an optional extra, the van was originally bought by a farmer!
