I think I have to clarify a bit. In an EARLY Vanagon, with the exception of the rear hatch, there is no way to lock the door and then close it.

Therefore in an EARLY Vanagon in order to lock yourself out of the car you must do one of the following:

1) After locking the slider, and both front doors, open the rear hatch, lock it, leave your keys inside, crawl out, and then close the hatch.

2) Lock all the doors leaving one of the front roll down windows open enough to reinsert your keys, but not open enough to get your arm through to unlock the door.

Having illustrated the lunacy of both of these options I have no doubt that today or tomorrow I will find a third, yet to be conceved way, of locking one's self out of an early van and claim the prize of list idiot for myself.

Thanks, Chris
