Of course if you are talking tube (valve to the Brits) amplifiers, than a 40 watt system is awesome...about the same as a 200 watt (per channel) solid state system. I used to have a 40 watt tube amplifier (heathkit that my dad built) connected to a 15 inch speaker. Soundtrack to The Empire Strikes Back sounded great on it. Imperial Death March. Great Stuff. CDs don't give as much warmth to the music as vinyl did. Better dynamic range and less noise mind you, but a bit less warmth.

I'm hoping that DVD-Audio will help this (but the dearth of titles on DVD-Audio is painful.)
