Subject: Brake Problem
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

List,

I replaced both brake rotors last night, but have a new problem related to the right caliper. After applying the brakes several times (driving appx. 5 miles), heard a metallic grinding from the right front. Closer examination revealed the outboard piston retracted below the metal of the caliper frame. The caliper metal frame was contacting the rotor. Inboard and outboard pistons were not equally expanded. Some background information:

1. Rotors are new German OEM 2. Inner race is verified snug against the shoulder 3. Verified the right outboard piston is free to move, though full travel is not verified. 4. Bolts holding the caliper to the frame are torqued to spec. 5. Brake pads are almost new

Any ideas why the outboard piston is not expanding with equal travel to the inboard? Is a new caliper in my future?
