I'm pretty sure when you convert the Vanagon AC over to R-134...thoroughly, 
the expansion valve is one of the parts that get changed (as should the 
receiver/dryer). At the dealer, they get "kits" to do the conversion. Costs 
two arms and two legs to get the conversion done.
