Hi SpaceKommander,

The guy behind the VW parts counter in Wichita might have said a lot but in fact he told you very little that was true.

Vanagons across Europe (actually T3s or T25s) suffer *exactly the same* cylinder head gasket and stud corrosion problems as those in North America. The difference is that VAG never offered a recall in Europe.

VAG used the excuse that European mains water differed greatly from that in the USA and therefore the problem did not occur. This is more BS: It's no consolation to a UK or German VW van owner who finds that the coolant-induced corrosion that just destroyed their WBX for VW to assert that this should not have happened in Europe.

The problem affects a significant proportion of the vehicles sold in Europe. However, it's probably a lower proportion than in North America because, especially in their vehicles' early years, European buyers are far more likely to have their vans serviced regularly at VW dealers always using the correct VAG coolant (pink).

Hope this helps.

Tony (from the UK).

Is it cooling related? Cooldown after highway related? Whatever. >Trying to save $10 by buying green prestone or whatever seems like >nonsense.
