Purolator makes a plastic filter that fits perfectly. It is listed in
their catalog. It has the small line in and big line out. (They also have
the metal filter listed.) Shouldn't be hard to pick-up the plastic one
anywhere. Pep Boys always has them in stock. It must fit something else
as well? Not a bad idea to carry one, though. I only take along stuff
that I could actually change out on the road. Fuel pump, belts, ...
Things that can fail and leave you dead in the water.

I now carry a fuel filter. I got a tank of gas laced liberally with water
on a recent trip to Newfoundland. I credit the gas line antifreeze that I
always carry with getting me to a campsite. I had to get towed from there
--- the garage drained the gas tank but the fuel filter was hosed. On my
84 the fuel filter has different hose sizes going in and out --- so a
generic filter doesn't fit. The mechanic managed to get a new one on with
a collection of fittings -- but it wasn't easy. I'll just carry a spare
henceforth. I figure bad gas is always a posssibility --- and a bottle of
dryers is cheap, easily stored insurance.
Cheers,
Doug
