Hello folks,
I finally found a reservable spot for us to use for the event. We will be in
the Pinelake Section of Stern Grove. There is currently a picnic party of
about 40 reserved in the same area already. We will pretty much cover the
rest of the place's capacity.
There are only 100 parking spaces. The City will only permit me to reserve 40
spaces because the place is a public park after all. The rest is first come
first served. Hopefully, we can all coordinate the thing enough so that not
al l the spaces are occupied all the time just like last year.
I will be sending specific instructions for those who pmail me directly. So
please, please, please. Pmail me now if you are planning on attending. I need
an accurate headcount. I will guarantee you a personal notice via email of
the specifics as long as you pmail be in advance.
The minor bad news is the place cost money to reserve. I don't know how much
yet but I am willing to pay for that out of my own pocket. Donations are not
expected but of course welcomed. The important thing is we have a nice quite
place to REV OUR ENGINES UNTIL THEY BLOW UP ... just kidding folks. Remember
this place is in the middle of a nice quiet neighborhood so please no tire
burnouts with your diesel Westies.
As of this time, we have over 100 folks coming. A small minority are people
looking to buy a Vanagon or a Westy and want to talk to those of us who own
those type of vehicles. Be on your best behavior!!!!! let them buy one first
then tell them how addictive the hobby is.
We will not be having a bikini contest unless Mike Miller decides to bare it
all. I don;t what how bare though as he looks like he has attached 60's shag
carpets on his BACK. (we love you Mickey). We can probably do some quiet
parts swapping but we can't lay out parts there. Keep them in your van and
just tell folks about them.
Next year, I will try to find a space where we can do this kind of thing. The
city just does not have a public place big enough for the kind of thing this
is shaping up to be. The City of South San Francisco has offered to host one
in the future but only at Orange Park. That's worth considering next year.
They will allow vendors to come in and sell their wares openly. So if you are
a vendor coming this year, please keep it low profile.
I am expecting Overland, Westy Ventures, the SA Group Purchase, Tassi, Inc.,
European Autosport (SyncroMog - is that the right name?), The BusLab...
waiting for confirmation from the rest.
Hey if you have time to donate for setting up a webpage or coordinating
notices and traffic, I certainly could use your assistance.
Your fellow Vanaholic,
BenT
