I can't just let this scoop thing go away without a fight. Back in 1958 I had a 39 Plymouth, a 52 Chevy truck and a 34 Ford (alternately running). Each of these vehicles had a simple vent that was lever operated and the amount of air redirected into the passenger compartment was memorable. I notice that many Diesel cabs have similar vent arrangements that are just square ports with weather stripping to seal them. It appears that a simple arrangement of this type could be used to vent to an oil cooler or to the engine compartment and not be too ugly a devise to add to a van or Vanagon for specific ventilation purposes, what ever they are. I often stop at salvage truck yards and buy good Stewart Warner gauges for a few dollars each and I'm considering buying a few of these door type vents since many are just installed with pop-rivests and surface gaskets. My only hold back is that I absolutely resist changing, drilling, cutting or modifying my Westy from original in any way. Then there is the reality of the desire to have some ventilation in my Westy that the Germans apparently didn't need: or was this fresh air distribution system just a form of revenge?
