Well, I have a 90 westy syncro, with the black plastic/glass-encased power mirrors. Love the mirrors, but the case has a nice rounded shape to it. Very aerodynamic, I'm sure (God knows the rest of the van is! <g>). Anyway, driving down from the mountains a few weekends ago, I discovered that the nice rounded shape happens to deflect wayward bugs directly at my chest. One of those huge dragonflies with black-and-white striped wings was my first casualty, and it landed directly at the front of my left armpit. When I looked down, it looked very much like the largest damn bumblebee I've ever seen. I'd like to say I maintained my composure, but alas, I whooped like a schoolgirl, and nearly crashed the van. In spite of nearly going over an embankment, my wife was in hysterics in the passenger seat (and nine months pregnant at the time). Yesterday, I had another bug land directly below my chin, and this time my reaction was warranted--a very large yellowjacket, to which I am quite allergic.... So, other than rambling a bit on the list, my purpose for this message is to wonder aloud (in binary??) if others have enjoyed similar experiences, and/or if any have taken corrective action.... Anyway, maybe a large bug zapper on the front bumper.... "no, Fred, nooooo!!!! Don't look at the light!!!" "It's just so beautiful, man...." ciao, bmc :) "Faith will move mountains, but you'd better bring a shovel...." |
