Subject: 1986 Vanagon GL for sale on eBay (#1853305195)

Hi.
We are selling our 1986 Vanagon GL on eBay because we are buying a
"new" older Westy. We bought the Van in June 1999 from Chris Jordan.
He might be able to tell you about the van's previous owner.
The photos on the eBay site are dark (they were taken near sunset in
a rush to get the Vanagon listed on eBay). I can email "brighter"
photos to anyone who requests them.
The Van runs well. We have taken it on trips to North Carolina and
in Virginia. It has had an intermittent starting problem (i.e.,
turning over and over but not starting) that seems to have been
corrected by the recent replacement of the spark plug and ignition
coil wires.
The body is in good condition with no rust that is apparent to me (or
that I know about).
Although the tires were good enough for the Vanagon to pass
inspection, they need to be replaced. They are OK for driving around
town and for 100-mile trips, but I would replace them before taking a
500-mile trip.
The odometer and speedometer do not work so anything I say about
mileage or fuel efficiency is a guess. With that caveat, I think
this gets about 20 miles/gallon (based on how far I think we've
driven and on how much gas it takes to refill the tank after the
trip).
It has a current license and the inspection is good through May 2003.
This van has an Amzoil oil system. There is an extra-large oil
filter that you can see in the photo of the engine (if you ask me to
email you the photos). We have a few extra quarts of the Amzoil
synthetic oil and will include those with the Vanagon.
A new STEBRO muffler was just installed this summer; we bought the
muffler from Frank Condelli two years ago but just now got around to
installing it.
The factory A/C works but seems to have a very slow Freon leak. We
had it filled in the summer of 1999 and it worked for the next two
years. It doesn't cool now so I assume it needs more Freon.
We have never had any trouble with this Vanagon's automatic transmission.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Christine
