I have this sneaking suspicion that http://www.2weddle.com/ has a five speed vanagon tranny but I could be wrong.

Realisticly the main advantage to the syncro tranny would be to get one with a rear locking differential... for all but the hardcore off roader I am sure it would turn make a standard 2WD van perform 90% as well as the syncro.
