I seemed to be the lowest man on the scale when I was in the Navy in 1959 and I attended several fire fighting schools (praise the Lord, what a wonderful experience) and the whole point is just to cut off the supply of oxygen to the fire. Second option is to reduce the temperature to lower than the burn point. Sand sounds reasonable though. I had an engine fire and used a 1/2 of a 5 pound extinguisher and I swear the nasty yellow chemicals did more damage than the fire. To top that off I left the extinguisher in the van standing vertical in a 5 gallon bucket and somehow I managed to toss something onto the handle and put another 2.5 pounds of that nasty yellow stuff into the interior of my Westy. ............. gag .......... sick .... sucks. Sand is beginning to sound better as my memory of that event improves.
