IIRC they will be assessed a $10,000 fine if they do not submit to US Customs proof that the was exported the vehicle back out of US territory within a year of their entry.

What state are you planning on licensing the vehicle in? If they are willing to have some compliance work done during the vehicle's presence here, you will be ahead of the game.
