Just to clarify after having received a mountain of mail following my message about my headlamp relay kit, everyone asking if this kit fits a '81,'82, '83 etc. Vanagon. It was stated quite clearly that the relay kit I am offering was designed to fit a 1986 ~ 1991 Vanagon. Please goto my Headlamp Relay Upgrade website and read what it says there. It was not designed to work in pre '86 models. I certainly would have made it clear that it would fit other models in my original posting. Why would I have purposefully narrowed my market for this kit ? Come on guys, I am busy repairing these Vans and have no time to answer foolish e-mail messages.

Now it "may" be possible to make this kit work in the pre '86 models, I do not know as I have not had the time to investigate this. Certainly the VW relay plates will not clip on the fuse block as it is completely different. Therefore you will have to mount the relays in another location and fashion. The wires that come with the kit will therefore not be of the correct length. And, I cannot tell you which wires to cut and splice to break into the headlamp circuit correctly and in the most convenient fashion. I explored all of this for the '86 ~ '91 models BUT I have not had time to do this for the pre '86 models. I will get to it but later on when I have more free time. My shop has been very busy lately with broken waterboxers !

Cheers
