I was thinking as well of putting a syncro trans (w/locking diff modified with a higher gear ratio) into my 2WD to make ein halbe-syncro. Along with taller tires, I'll bet this would make for really nice highway performance, and the G gear would still be there for times when 1st isn't low enough.

As it stands, though, it doesn't look to me like there is enough clearance for the bigger tires on the 2WD - it sits sooo low to the ground compared to the syncro. Can anyone comment on the feasibility of installing 15" wheels and 215/75R15 tires on a 2WD Vanagon? I have access to a "parts" syncro - is it possible to swap springs, shocks, & other parts from the syncro to get the 2WD van to sit up at "syncro height" and enable use of the bigger tires? Also, does the syncro trans just bolt right in to the 2WD with no modifications required?

Thanks.
