OK, then, why not build a custom pan/griddle that fits perfectly over the existing grille, which would allow the drainboard to continue functioning as a heat shield? And to answer the question that started this thread, any rubber cap you fit over the legs would have to resist the awesome heat produced by cooking... maybe a harder plastic would fit the bill? It would only have to be a little softer than the stainless steel to stop rattles. My GE stove (in my house) has little rubber (or something) feet at each corner of the grilles, and they don't melt. -Simon
