I don't have a solution, but I feel your pain...
       As a passenger in the back of a huge late 70's cadillac, I caught a
bumble bee in the face at about 75 mph.  Poor little dude got sucked in and
pegged me below the right eye.  Knocked my head back, had a welt from it.  In
subsequent years, when I bought a motorcycle, I got a full-face helmet.  No
need to repeat that.  Head still snaps back when you hit a big bug, but no
welts ;) .
