I'm not familiar with the Tiico, but bear with me here. On my diesel, on the front of the head (FIF) there's an outlet for the heater hose. It's got a threaded boss for the stock temp sender. Is your Tiico set up the same way? If so, go to a junkyard and get the same fitting from a diesel Rabbit, Dasher, or pickup. (Other diesel cars may work, too, but not a diesel Vanagon.) These vehicles put the glow plug temp sender in the same location, so they have *two* threaded bosses in that location. Now you can mount your add-on gauge sender *and* keep the stock one, without having to drill holes anywhere.

This is an okay spot for a pressure gauge sender if you put a tee there, but it won't work well for an oil temp sender because it'll be stagnant. You'll end up reading the temperature of the metal of the head, not of the oil.
