Hi All, I have been tightening my rear axle nut on various occasions over the past few years. This weekend tightening fixed it for only a few miles. Today I took the whole thing apart, well most of it. What I found was, it appears that the axle shaft is about stripped. Stripped but how and why. The nut calls for 360 lbs of torque and I only used a breaker bar that I would stand on. Has anyone heard of this problem and is there an underlying problem that I am missing? The bearing look OK. But they need to be repacked now. I though about chasing the threads but... I think prudent on getting a newer one. Comments? I am also going to do my CV Joints, great digi-god willing. What is the size of the allen bolts for the CV Joint? I need to buy the socket tomorrow. TIA, Jere 90 GL 88 GL |
