Can't assist much on the expertise department but I may be able to help in other ways. Tell whoever it is to pmail me and I will see what I can do. I happen to have two good running 87's (one 2wd & one Syncro) on hand for comparison and possibly parts loaner. I also have access to a Vanagon specialty shop in the area. If worst comes to worst, you can always take it in there. If you have fuel and spark it should start. If you say you have spark at the plugs why would you think it's an ignition problem?
