Don't waste your time and money; they're one and the same. The Emico is made by the OEM supplier to VW, so if you buy a genuine VW one you'll probably just get another Emico anyway (but for more money). We don't happen to sell the Emico (we offer a U.S. competitor's product for $95 instead; comparable quality, much better price, and never had a single defect). But from what I've seen of Emico's units I've always judged them to be of rather good quality. I think it's likely that this was an isolated defect, which could happen with any product. Contact your retailer and see if they'll exchange it for you.
