You don't say whether you need it for a 4 speed or automatic. That makes a big difference. I have had good luck with rebuilt starters from Beck Arnley. They should be available through any good auto store. They come with a 2 year warranty that is honored any where.

Greetings to all Vanagon drivers throughout the US and especially in the southwest.

My husband, Noel Cookson, is in Taos New Mexico with our 88 Vanagon (2.1 litre) and his starter is going out. Bus Depot doesn't have one readily. Our mechanic has ensured Noel that the install is a piece of cake, but he needs the part in the next day or so (ideally). He has been advised to steer clear of Auto Zone and so that's not an option.

Does anyone out there know where he can get the part? He is willing to drive to Sante Fe, Albuquerque, wherever (within reason)

Also, does anyone have a place he could use to do the installation?

Thanks so much for your time. Please p-mail him at ncookson@networkusa.net. Thanks! ~~jane, his wife
