Subject: Selling on the Vanagon site. (a lesson)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

My viewpoints and comments on this subject:

Clarence (et al): I will not respond point by point to the factual inaccuracies in your post(s) regarding our transaction. Suffice to say that we had a large difference in opinion as to our agreement. The list can form their own opinions, since you posted nearly all of our (previously private) correspondence recently. I will say that:

1. We *were* communicating quite well via P-Mail, until you apparently decided that you didn't like my understanding of our agreement. Instead of replying back to me directly, you went to the list (only) with it. Since I read list mail (via digest mode) only sporadically, I didn't see your posts to Al Knoll, the list, or me, regarding the vents, until well after they were posted.

2. Regarding this subject directly, I suggest that buyers and sellers of used parts (A) negotiate a final price and terms in advance (I did), (B) confirm the price and terms before sending payment (I did), (C) keep copies of all important correspondence in case of disagreements after the fact (I did; Clarence seems to be missing an important one), and (D) be prepared to defend their character, when disparaged on the list.

3. Since I can no longer trust our correspondence to be private, Clarence, I am telling you here, that regarding this transaction, I am DONE.

Cary Chiang
