Try checking your grounds... all of them... But especially the chassis to
engine on the drivers side.

The ECU is doing a lot of adjusting during cold conditions, whereby when it
is warm, you may not notice any problem.  I have a '91 Golf that would run
really rough, and stall and die on cold damp mornings, but if I just kept
pumping the gas pedal, and didn't let it die, it would run smoothly in a
matter of 10 minutes.  It was diagnosed back to a water flooded, corroded
ECU as this one sits outside, in front of the windshield, under a lame
plastic protector. The fun part was that if it would stall, I would not be
able to start it for 30 minutes or so... would crank, but no gas, or no
spark.  After sitting stalled out, in many different situations throughout
town (each time for like a half hour or more) it would start up, and be a
nice car again.

The grounds are essential to getting the correct signals back and forth to
the ECU and FI, AFM etc.

Just an idea... but it has helped me, and I know many others.
