Weather and temperature can certainly have an effect on your pads and rotors. It can happen over night, too. For the last 2 months, Portland, Oregon has had it's share of hot weather. My Westy's brakes have had a hard time staying cool as I drove down some of the long hills behind town.. The brakes would heat up, and squeal at a very high pitched level when I used them a lot and if it was hot out. I was kind of embarrassed pulling in to the busy shopping district with all the loud noises my brakes would make after descending the hill. I felt very bad for all the black labs who's ears and heads were about to explode. Over night, fall has returned, with the temp dropping from 65-70 at 10 pm, to 45- 60. Last night had the first real feel of fall in the air. As I drove home form dinner, my front brakes are squeaking and popping when I apply them. It almost sounds rubbery, and clown light. I was kind of amused with the new set of sounds and the new looks I get when I slow for pedestrians. I've had my brakes looked at twice since I bought it to make sure there is nothing wrong with them. The have normal wear, and are at 90% pad left, and were given thumbs up each time. It was just interesting how noticeable the difference was, literally ... over night. As a side note, can anyone recommend a brake pad brand with might help reduce the annoying LOUD squeal I get when my brakes get hot? and finally, would anyone know the name of the font that VW uses for the "Westfalia" name on the top of our campers? I'd like to make my own sticker and wondered if I can do it with the same look and feel as the Westy name tag. Just curious, thanks, dave _______________ dave bowers Portland, Oregon 1986 Westy "HMS Beagle" http://www.dave-bowers.com/vw |
