Ok, now that a lot of you have the infrared temp guns... What temps are your vans showing? What temp at idle? What temp at the LED light? Or any other variations. My '87 with recently rebuilt heads is at 194 - 200º F and the gauge shows at or a little above the LED. The fan kicks in at about 203º as per Bentley (p. 19.12). However the Boston Bob new engine ( with all new engine hoses) in my friend's 90 is at 190 - 198º and the gauge is well below the LED. I would appreciate any input on your temps and any explanations for the variances that I am seeing on these two gauges. BTW, both sender units appear to be correct and mine is original to the engine (no changes by me or in the PO's pretty decent records). Thanks for any response... both for me and the archives. -- Stephen Steele* Chillicothe OH '91 Caravelle "Hans" '87 Westy "Franz" '84 Westfalia "Fritz" on loan to my nephew '81 Diesel Rabbit "Ol' Yeller" by PO '82 Caddy VW Diesel P.U.
