I bought my 91 Westy just a few weeks ago, thanks to the many knowledgeable members of this group, I have now get the engine clean up, and have done some basic tune up. I can now move on to tackle the brake noise problem. The shape noise coming from the front right wheel occurs only in the morning when I pull out of the garage and apply brake in front of the street. When I start driving on the street and stop in front of the traffic light it was OK. I notice from the repair invoice form the previous owner, a pair of new front pads was replaced on 5/18/01, about 7000 mls ago. I also notice this was done by the same mechanic who flush the radiator and refill it with 2 gallons of coolant and charge for $10 (most likely not phosphate free coolant). I therefore suspect that he was not using the right brake pad for the Westy. Could that be the cause of the sharp noise? Thanks again Fonni |
