Hello Alan, Unfortunately, i can't give you a cure for this, but rather only sympathy, for i too am having difficulty getting into first gear. This problem arrived with my rebuilt transaxle (ordered from German Transaxle), replacing the one i broke in canada a couple years ago. It'll go into first, but i have to shove the shifter as far to left as it'll go before it reluctantly pops in. What other adjustments can be done (besides the shifter plate at the floor) to get proper indexing? Also, the shifter feels all "floppy" now, as opposed to the relatively constant (but good) resistance the shifter had with the original transaxle... what could be causing this? Thanks for any input, -Damon Alan Gondry wrote:I have trouble getting my 1983.5 into first. Once in it is fine. I have adjusted the plate on the floor to where it goes no further. I am finding it difficult to find parts to replace and when I do it is very expensive. If bushings are the issue is there a west coast source? Is there a home made remedy? Any one have a spare assembly? '84 Westy
