Realistically that's more like 98 HP as the Corvair figures were from an engine with a fan, etc. The Corvair guys are building very reliable engines in the 150 HP range with modern fuel injection and minor things like exhaust and head massaging. Not a popular engine some folks but not worse than the aircooled VW engines. I have also worked on corvairs quite extensively--they came in something like 90, 110, and 140 turbo (plus or minus a few horsepower). these engines really are bullit proof--if set up properly. i spent many many days trying to get the valve train set up correctly on the corvair. basically--they stole the VW design and over simplified it. somethings work--somethings dont. rockers have to many different direction to wander in my opinion. and whats with that fan belt routing. but I am a fan of them non the less. i originally bought that 63 corvair monza in 97. its been through a couple different owners now who are all friends. I rebuilt the motor last year fo a friend--still running super strong great shop in CO--corvair only--rear engine specialist--303-278-4889. the owner is the greatest. |
