In this case bushing IS is serving as bearing. It's function that counts not the name. Racing cars are very light and have very diffrent suspension design ignoring ride quality as you correctly stated. In Vanagon suspension load is heavy and shock absorbtion is priority. Delrin just not good material for heavy loads neither shock absorbtion. In Vanagon bushings bearing function is between steel shaft and steel bushing insert leaving shock absorbtion to urethane.
