When I have tranny problems on a VW - and I have owned 1 Beetle, 1 loaf, and two
Vanagons with manual tranny's - I never wasted any time screwing around with
them. It simply is not worth it, even if getting the money together for a proper
fix is a pain and a strain. Once you have a tranny rebuilt by someone who knows
what they are doing, you will get long trouble free service, if you take good
care of it. Four different VW's, four different  tranny overhauls, and after each
they never ever let me down.

If you get it overhauled, start it's new life on Redline MT90. That sucker will
prol'ly outlast you.
