That's right, it is capitalism. Some people are willing to pay more because a few bucks means little to them, and Mail Boxes Etc. is on the way home, and they don't want to hassle driving out of their way, or for myriad others reasons, including perhaps not knowing it is cheaper elsewhere. So, Mail Boxes Etc. and their competitors do well, because they serve a purpose. Other people will drive across town to save a penny, while for others it is a dollar. What's your price to go out of your way?

Now, for me, mailboxes etc is a 2 hour drive each way, so I won't be shipping anything through them any time soon.
