I had similar problems getting into first gear in my van. adjusting the plate on the floor helped alot, and it did not need to be moved very much at all, 1/4" or so...i still have to push it to the left some as it probobly could use another adjustment, i find that if i roll up to stops and put it in 2nd gear, and then first gear, that it is much easier than just going after 1st...good luck, and put some red line in the tranny, makes a huge difference, especially come winter, if you have winter there...
