Subject:      missing wire at distributer? and timing question

when i was inspecting my spare wiring harness last
night i noticed that there was a wire with a female
spade right around the hall sender wires going to
dist.i also notice that on my van, there is a male
spade on the right of the distributer. i am wondering
if i am missing a wire? i don't see the same on my
harness although i guess it could be tucked up in the
sheath, anyone know what that wire does??? one more
question, im not real clear on how to set the timing,
besides pluging the idle plugs together and unpluging
the temp 2, is this accomplished by loosening and
rotating the distibuter? or is that for setting the
idle? thanks in advance for any input...
