Subject: Recommended mechanic in Grass Valley, CA

We want to recommend an excellent repair shop (in our estimation) in Grass Valley, CA. The name is Mountain Auto Service, 11209 La Barr Meadows Road, Grass Valley, CA, phone (530) 272-1383. We were stranded in our 1988 Vanagon (had to replace the water hoses from front to back) and they were nice enough to come check out the van where we were stranded and immediately got on the job to check out and arrange repairs.

I had previously contacted another outfit by the name of Import Auto Service and they were extremely rude in dealing with us - told me it would be September 15 before he could even look at it (this was on August 29th!!). When I asked for recommendations of another shop, his answer was "go into the phone book and start calling around!"

Mountain Auto was very knowledgeable about VW's and other vehicles as well. They were excellent in their repairs, too, and went out of their way to help two stranded women - and their pricing seemed very fair.
