Subject: color of coolant

The color is added to the coolant more to identify the product manufacturer and it tells you very little about what it is or is not. It is true that most phophate containing coolant is green and mixing different color coolant in the short term will not make too much difference. Green is often the cheapest stuff and the easiest to locate. Mixing one color with another color will shorten the life span of the long term coolant if one color is not long term. Most important thing is to change the coolant to something you can live with when you have the time. gary Date: Wed, 11 Sep 2002 21:36:09 -0700 From: Doktor Tim <doktortim@ROCKISLAND.COM> Subject: Re: unidentified coolant

I would top up with water if it's just for a few days. Even mixing coolants for a few days is of little concern. What is important is the service is a COMPLETE drain/rinse/replace.

Green is NEVER phosphate free, unless it's a mix of blue VW/Audi/Porsche/Autobahn/Jaguar and yellow Mercedes. Same stuff from the same Basf Corp. vat just different tints.
