Subject: 90 Westy... Blown engine... Fixed
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Re: the 90 Westy that the friend was considering selling with no engine... She decided to put a Boston Bob engine in, with no core for exchange. Thanks to those of you who offered a core for exchange.

The old engine came out easily and the exhaust system came off with a little rust-off penetrating fluid. The con rod on #2 let loose and blew around in the case before exiting out the top of the engine. The heads were in near perfect condition, no pitting or build up or corrosion in over 115K miles... BLUE COOLANT apparently makes a BIG difference! I will be changing mine over soon. A few small parts for replacement and the engine was ready to go back in.

No problems putting the new engine back in except in changing over the hoses and the engine mounts...that took a little more time than I had allotted.

It runs smooth and quiet. I am following the break in schedule as per BB and will be changing the oil and watching the revs before I give it back to her on her return from Oregon.

My experience with Boston Bob was very positive and I would recommend this route for any of you so inclined. -- Stephen Chillicothe OH
