Is Mobil-1 10-30W OK for my WBX? I currently run Mobil-1 10-40W and am satisfied with it. Read on...

I noticed the Costco here in the SF Bay Area sells Mobil-1 10-30W by the 12-bottle case, at a good price, seemed far less than what one would pay at a local chain-FLAPS (no discount for by-the-case).

Anyone have informed opinions on the appropriateness of this stuff for the 2.1L WBX? The VW manual for my vehicle doesn't seem too keen on the use of 10-30W in warmer climes. Is this stuff, perhaps... different?

Alternatively, does anyone know of a good by-the-case source for the 10-40W? Or have a better recommendation?

It is basically formulated for some of the new honda and bmw vehicles (and some others) with extremely low tolarance engines. some of the newer engines have manuals that specifically ban heavier oils in the engine as seal blowers. I might look at it for cold climate use but not in everyday use in warmer climes for aircooled engines. there is also a 5w20 and 0w30 from some other brands. jimt
