I can believe the fire extinguisher explanation but
the propane filling is as bogus as a three dollar
bill.
Tank is a closed system with a spring with another
closed system filling it.   Only thing that effects it
is the temperature.   This is why we fill it 80%.
Outside pressure does not affect the fill but may
affect the usage rate.  gary

I can do about  12 pots of coffee and run the fridge
for a 3 day
weekend  and have my small heater on two  nights and
not consume enough
to put a dent in the supply.  You can run your fridge
for about 10 days
  and about 4 pots of coffee a day  on the base westy
tank.

  yes there will be a pressure differential from sea
level to denver.
example is a fire extinguisher filled at  sea level
and then brought to
colorado will typically  read overcharged.

at  91,500 BTU per gallon and the westy tank is just
under 3.   RV
place says its rated a  12 pounder. (4.25 lbs to the
gallon of lp) at
about 400 BTU/hr for the fridge gives about 9  days to
the gallon.
no  special adapters needed to fill
