Hi,

My question to you is...

did your switch upgrade fix the problem?

I have tried two used switches in mine, and I have what seems to be the same thing going on in mine.

I hit the low and medium speeds on the switch, and the fan does not move, or strains and tries to move... hit high speed and it spins!!

I had the same thing happening on my golf and had to replace a 35 dollar resistor in the blower motor (on the advice of the VW mechanic) and it still did not work. I pulled the blower, and it was a mess.... I managed to take it apart as much as it would allow, and lubed it up good... afterwards, it ran no problem on all speeds, with the old resistor installed too!

So now I would like to know if I need to rip the entire dash off and dive in to do a lube on my Vanagon blower motor. I do not want to, as I have been tweaking things all summer and I finally just want to put it all back together inside and drive it a bit.

The strange thing is that if I run the blower in high speed, and THEN switch down to medium... it runs in medium... and then if I switch down to low... and it runs in low.

Makes me really think that the motor is just crapped up, and needs that extra voltage to bust through, and actually spin.

Any comments or advice will be sincerely appreciated.
