An Italian doctor told me that in the Campagna region (around Naples) that the tax on your house was based on it's appearance. Better = more money.

I think I remember him telling me that this had changed by '95 or was due to change. A side benefit was that the thieves did not know which house to rob b/c they all looked bad.

His town (as much of the Naples area) looked terrible b/c of this.

I miss Naples though - best years of my single life!!!

Hope to move back for another "tour".
