It's not at all stupid. It's merely a way to ensure that the bleeder valve on top of the radiator is the highest point in the cooling system.

I heard one time about some crazy such thing as parking on a hill to be able to get all the air out of the cooling system and top off the anti freeze. I know it sounds stupid, just thought I'd pass it along. if nothing else maybe its good for a laugh.
