<DIV></DIV>> From my earlier post and this one I guess you've
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> figured out today is official "VDO Gauge Install Day"
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> here in Hooterville...
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> I ordered a 300 degree oil temp VDO gauge and sender
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> from Bus Depot...my mechanic (installing it) just
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> found out the sender won't fit in the oil drain plug.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> Called Bus Depot...guy at the counter says to
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> tap&drill a new hole. Has anyone out there run into
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> (got a solution to) this problem???
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>On an aircooled Vanagon, you must tap a new hole. On a wasserboxer, it is
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>possible to use the existing hole if you do minor modification, according to
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>this previous post to the Vanagon list:
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> I purchased the sendor that Bus Depot sells for the type 1, this will
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> thread into the WBX block but has a larger hex head size for the wrench..I
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> believe it's 17mm instead of 13mm. So I had to dremel the block
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> area where the drain plug resides, it was just big enough for the sender
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>to
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> fit but no socket, dremel out some metal from the boss in a cicular
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>fashion and the
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> socket now fits just right and I have a sender that works.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> ps...I always use the copper crush washer AND plumbers tape, it has always
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> grounded properly.
