Subject: Transmission slipping?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Hi all,
So my '87 Westy is acting strangely and I assume its a transmission problem. Its going really high on RPMs intermittently when it is shifting from 2nd to 3rd (auto trans.) and sometimes it seems to slip down from 3rd to 2nd into a high RPM. When I was at the Busses by the Buoy gathering in Maine over the weekend Dennis H. noticed that I was REALLY low on trans. fluid, which we promptly refilled. I also had an oil leak that was blowing back over the top of the engine compartment (which was solved as a combo problem with a leak from the oil pressure relief valve as well as a small leak from either the seal from tranny to engine or from tranny to differential), mostly over the tranny area tho and I'm wondering if oil fell into the transmission fan area if it could cause the same symptoms...i.e. I'm hoping I didn't do transmission damage by being so low on fluid. Maybe its just as much of a problem if oil flew into the transmission from the blow over leak problem. (Dennis if you're reading this you'll understand my ramblings the best!). My tachometer is also very wacky - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Read in the archives that these symptoms might be related to the hall sender (which was broken at the arm into the distributor when I bought it and I repaired it carefully with JB Weld as per archive recommendations). Any ideas volks or tests I should do or have done to narrow done the problem?
Thanks in advance!
Peace,
Marla
