Bill, I would recommend the fiberglass high temp tape to wrap around your head. That way, if this mess continues, the heat you generate won't leave that gummy stuff all over your hair.

At the Van-a-thon the other day, I saw both TIICO and Subies... they both looked nice. I suspect, with my fondness for Japanese reliability, I might go the Subie route also someday.

I had a Saab 9000 Turbo in my pre-divorce days (daze?) and they had a flexible section, well built (lasted 10 years), just take up the engine movement slack in the exhaust system. Perhaps this is something you should look into.
