My current '99 Honda CR-V uses a clamp to connect the manifold to the exhaust via a spring loaded clamp. My previous Accord used a flexible stainless steel wire mess to accomplish the same job.

Sounds like your engine is moving around and flexing the pipe. Is the whole exhaust fastened tot he engine or some to the frame?
