Subject: 85' oil leak any ideas
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hello, well yesterday I found a few puddles under the bus, and upon inspection it looks as if it's comming from the oil filter / or area where the oil filter is. I went under the bus, and saw a drip forming on the bottom of the oil filter. Whats weird is that it doesn't look as if it actually came from the oil filter. I looked where the oil filter meets the bus and it was dry. I couldn't see behind the filter, but there was no indication that the drip ran down the filter. Everything above the filter looked dry. The only place that it was really wet was on a crossbar that goes across the whole engine. It passes under the filter sort of. The bolt and area were really covered. (could've been wind blowing drips?) Anyways I started the bus and watched for where the drips were comming from, and they were definitly comming from where the oil filter was. Again when I went to check it out, I couldn't find the original pattern of the drips. So then I looked from above the engine compartment down, and didn't see any wet areas. There was some caked oil where my coil is, but that is like the other side from where the drips were located. Looking on the area that had the drips I could see the puddles, but no indication that anything else was wet or anything. I pretty much decided that it must be the oil filter, but thought I would ask to see if anyone knew of any other spots near there that might be the culprit. I'm gonna do an oil change later so I can change the filter. (i'm almost do anyways) And will probably do a tranny fluid change too. (that was something else I noticed) the tranny had a wet area, pretty much going in a straight line. When I touched the stuff, it looked about the same color as oil, but a little thicker. It wasn't dripping or anything, but I didn't see how it got there. I hope that I don't have a tranny leak, I don't see how unless the case is cracked, and it didn't look it. Any ideas.

thanx,

Tracy
